Aircon costs
by suburb

Sizing and running costs worked from each suburb's own climate record, electricity network and housing mix. A living room in one suburb can need a full size step more than the same room half an hour away.

Suburb guide questions

Why does the recommended size differ between suburbs in the same city?
Because the climate does. Cooling demand is driven by how hot a place actually gets, and that varies sharply across a single metro. Western Sydney runs several degrees hotter than the coast on summer afternoons, which is a full unit size on a living room. Each suburb page works its figure from that suburb's own Bureau of Meteorology record rather than a city average.
Where do the running cost figures come from?
From the appliance energy data registered under the federal E3 program, scaled by each suburb's own cooling degree days and then multiplied by the electricity tariff for the network that actually serves that postcode. Networks differ by more than you would expect, so two suburbs an hour apart can have meaningfully different bills for the same unit.
My suburb is not listed. Can I still get quotes?
Yes. We list suburbs above about 8,000 residents, but installers service far wider areas than that. Use the city guide for your nearest centre, or submit the quote form with your postcode and we will match installers who cover it.
