What moves a Sydney split quote
Back-to-back, or not
The cheap baseline: indoor unit on an external wall, condenser directly behind it. Every metre the two units drift apart adds piping, cabling and labour, the biggest single swing on most quotes.
Electrical work
Bigger units need a dedicated circuit, and older switchboards sometimes need an upgrade to take one. Legitimate money, but it should be an itemised line, not a surprise on install day.
Strata and salt in the east
Apartment installs need strata approval first, and beachside suburbs should quote marine-grade units. Both are normal Sydney jobs, name them upfront and the quotes come back accurate.
Western Sydney runs hotter
Summers west of Parramatta run 4–6°C above the coast. Installs quote cheaper out west, spend the saving on the next size up.
